Diving Expeditions on the Enchanted Islands
One of the best sites for diving in South America are without doubt the Galapagos islands. The richness of sea life in Galapagos is due to the presence of cold marine currents which enriches the water and attracts marine species, although being close to the Equator, water temperatures range from 16º to 24ºC.
The islands offer very good dive sites for beginners, intermediate and experienced divers. The best period is the warm and sunny season, from December to May, when the sea is very calm and there is almost no wind; visibility is very good and ranges normally from 8 miles to 20 miles. The Cold season, from June to November, presents lower visibility and more wind.
There are fabulous dive sites in Galapagos, composed of fantastic formations of black corals and soft corals, rock formations with crevices, breathtaking vertical walls and caves. Some islands present diving in walls with strong surges and currents.
Divers will experience abundant shoals of tropical and exotic fish, shoals of Hammer heads, golden coral and eagle rays, stingrays and manta rays, morays, Galapagos sharks, barracudas, harmless white and black tips, turtles, dolphins and sea lions.
We offer some possibilities for diving: There are Full Diving Charter Cruises, Occasional diving onboard of the Naturalist Cruises, and daily basis diving programs from Puerto Ayora.
